Background

A six-time Massachusetts state high school champion (three outdoor, three indoor, one cross-country), Jonathon went on to become the most-decorated track-and-field athlete in Stanford’s illustrious history; by the end of his senior year in 2002 he ranked in the school’s all-time Top 5 in eight different events.

In 2004, Jonathon made the Olympic team at 5000 meters with his second-place finish at the Trials. “In 1996, watching the Olympic Trials, I was a junior in high school, so I didn't know how I was going to get from where I was to the Olympics,” he told an interviewer the following year. “But it's something that I knew I wanted to do, and after being in the Olympics there's a sort of weird looking back in astonishment that everything worked out the way it did, and [there I was]. And there are people who are deep in their career, and things happened so they haven't had the opportunity to run the Olympics, I feel fortunate that I was able to do everything I needed to at that time. It was an amazing experience.”

A long-time member of the Farm Team in Palo Alto, Jonathon moved in September 2006 to Madison, and is now coached by University of Wisconsin assistant coach Jerry Schumacher. (Among his training partners is Matt Tegenkamp.) He is the father of son Jonathon and daughter Noa. With Coach Schumacher's appointment to the Nike Oregon Projection in 2008, Jonathan and his family have relocated with his other training partners to Portland, Oregon.
